By October; 1977, the State Government took over the institution and gave it the name Awgu General Hospital. The direct entry (Basic) Midwifery training continued till 1992. After March 1992 exams, it was closed due to logistics problems. After the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria’s accreditation visit in 1996, the school was given provisional approval to recommence the post-basic midwifery program in 1997. This continued till September 2005 when the school lost its accreditation again. This was the longest so far but glory be to God who has not allowed the school to see everlasting shame. The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria has given the school approval to run a basic training programme again, in the year 2018.

The school has turned out many midwives who are scattered all over the world rendering service to humanity.

Our Philosophy

The midwifery practice should be family centered and oriented since the family is the basic unit of human existence. Therefore, midwifery services must focus on the care of the expectant family.
