Admission To the School Of Basic Midwifery, Awgu

Basic Midwifery

This is 3 years, 6 semesters Basic General Midwifery programme, approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) and run by the School Of Basic Midwifery, Awgu, Enugu State. It is designed to train students on practical midwifery skills and gives them the knowledge and clinical experience they need to become a Registered Midwife (RM). Registered Midwife (RM) provides support, care and advice before, during and after pregnancy, labour, and postpartum (after birth) period.                                                                                                                                                                                                                              

Admission Requirement

  1. Each candidate should be SSSC (WASC) or NECO holder.
  2. The candidate is required to pass the entrance examination and the oral interview for the school of midwifery.
  3. NOTE: five credits which must include. English Language and Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Biology in not more than two sittings must be obtained in school certificate. You can combine NECO and WAEC but cannot combine NABTEB with either of the two. NABTEB is only combined with NABTEB.

Pay at the bank

This is the first step in applying. Visit the school and  Pay at the bank with bank details below and submit your teller details to buy your form

Submit The Form

Applicants should print out the completed application form which must be submitted to the school admin officer on arrival for entrance examination.

Orientation

On the day of resumption, a tutor/clinical instructor takes the students around the school and the hospital showing them who is who and also getting the students acquainted with the environment. They are told what is expected of them, the duration of their course. Orientation lectures takes place for 2 days with documentation/registration of students.

Gather Necessary Documents

Indexing takes place online six months after the resumption. They are to pay
an index fee. Requirements for indexing include:-

  1.  2 identical passport photographs.
  2. Photocopy of birth certificate.
  3. Photocopy of O’Level results.
  4. Testimonial from the former school attended.
  5. Functional e-mail.

Training Process

a. All lectures are compulsory for students.
b. In the semester examination each subjects is 100%. If any student fails up to four courses, she is to resist, if she then fails the resit, she should be demoted.
c. The students must be successful in the hospital final examination according to the 13 council regulation and also pay the prevailing school fees before examination fee.
d. All manner of examination malpractice at any level is punishable by demotion or dismissal.
